Olympic Athlete visits Craven!

Craven were lucky enough to welcome James Denny into the Academy on Tuesaday 14th June.

James and the team from Sports for Schools provided an entertaining, and exhausting afternoon for the children! Here's how...

Along with Sportivator Mark, James put Key Stages 1 and 2 through their paces with a gruelling fitness course involving exercises such as spotty dogs and press ups! James, a Commonwealth Games silver medalist diver, then gave an assembly in which he detailed his own successes and shared the importance of aiming high and being dedicated. It's safe to say all the children left feeling inspired!

Miss Cooper, who organised the event, said, "It was a fabulous day that kept the children inspired and motivated."

Mr Rhodes said, "Seeing someone passionate about what they do is always going to be a worthwhile experience for our pupils. I hope this inspires children to go out and try different sports in order to discover any hidden talents!"

Here are the thoughts of some of our pupils…

“I was really excited and it made our school feel special. It’s inspired me to achieve in sports in the future!” – Charlie (Year 4)

“I enjoyed doing all of the exercises and activities because it helped me to get healthier in sports. It was also great fun!” - Anastazja (Year 4)

“I thought that the exercises we did were really fun and made us work very hard. Right now, I’m trying to get into different sports and healthy activities.” – Lauren (Year 5)

This was a sponsored event and up to now we have raised £900 which will be shared between charities, supporting young athletes to achieve their ambitions and helping us as a school to purchase extra sporting equipment to enrich learning during PE and beyond. We thank you all for your support with this. Who knows, maybe we could be seeing Craven pupils participating in the Olympics in the future!
